I purchased my Voice Organizer from a catalog on a Continental Airline flight, but Sharper Image carries it also. It is made by a company in California and costs about $199.99, but I had to increase the memory which cost me about $40.00 for the upgrade. It will fit comfortably in the palm of the average hand and the pocket of the shirt.
I bought it because it helps me keep track of appointments by beeping me, and telling me in my own voice what I have to do. I’m not good about remembering birthdays and anniversaries either. I programmed all birthdays, anniversaries and holidays in one sitting up to one year. On the day that I program it to remind me, it will beep me. Most important, it helps me for my business by reminding me what I have to do, hour, by hour, as well as keeping a list of what I have to accomplish for the day. I use it as a list for what I have to accomplish for the day, and this helps to keep me less anxious about forgetting anything I have to do. It will help me to remember when I have to take medication. I think of it as a life organizer.
I don’t enjoy writing and I have ADHD (big time). I never kept track of things when I had to write them. On the organizer, I can erase things after I accomplish them. I’ve had my Voice Organizer for almost two years and I haven’t lost it (which is amazing). I also keep 100 phone numbers in its memory which are retrieved by speaking the name of the person.
This is how it works. When you first get the Voice Organizer, you have train it to recognize your voice by speaking into it. It will identify you, and you only, when making requests. You have to program 34 words into the Organizer that are listed:
- The numbers 1-10
- a.m.
- p.m.
- The days of the week
- The word “no” (if there is a mistake)
Then you put your appointments in up to one full year in advance. For example:
“Dr. Jones appointment 1:00 p.m. Monday, 5/15/96″
I will program it to beep me on Sunday as well as Monday. I will program it to beep me on Monday one hour before the appointment. The manual gives more detailed instructions on doing this and more.
The disadvantages are that vocal recognition can occasionally be distorted because of changes in your voice: a cold, hoarse, etc., but commands can be done manually in that case. Because of it’s electronic nature, you must be very careful about getting it wet.
Overall, it’s a wonderful tool for anyone who is disorganized. It has really been great for me.

William: there are alternatives to the original Voice Organizer but I can’t say which one would be exactly like it. It’s going to take some research using google and amazon.com and the like to figure it out.

I have recently acquired a vpti model 5100 which was working fine and I love it. However, suddently it is displaying “key err” and will not respond to any of the buttons. I have the manual but this is not covered in it. Resetting it does not help. Date and time is working but is incorrect.

Search for IQ voice organizer to find the manual. You can find new ones under voice organizer pager on Ebay. I usually pay $6 for them plus shipping.
The ones with the pager incorporated in the device look the same and you just don’t use the pager. They operate the same also. Hope this helps

I have a new voice organizer model 5300 which has been lying with me for many years without use. I am not able to use its teach option as the display of words does not come. Can some one help me in finding its technical support.

I have a Voice Organizer model 5100 and am having some problems. Where can I find some answers? This is an original Voice Organizer and there appears to be something wrong with the record feature. It will play the memory in the unit but I cannot add anything. It simply freezes for 30-60 seconds. Anyone have any thoughts?

Nelson – Is your 6260 the same size as my older 5500? And what kind of batteries does it use? The small ones of is the the one with the AAA penlight type batteries? I could go to $85 based on what you say you have if your answers to the above are okay. I did finally give up on my 5500 problems and used the reset option and it is working again but had to erase all that had been saved for future reminders. (See #27 above).

Ihave had IQ Voice organizer for about 10 years.
I have accumulated 3 of them, with different memories 512 to 60 minutes 6240.. I dont know where to get them fix since IQ is no more in business.
If there is a similor voice organizer made by other company please let me know. IQ was a great unit but with little reliable dureness. I miss it every day.
So if you know any different company that makes a good unit I will appreciate it. or if I find something worthy I will let you also know. Again thanks.. Harvey

I have a Voice Organizer, model no. 5100. It’s a bit old, and the batteries have died, but I’m fairly certain it is in working order, besides the batteries.
It’s from the Sharper Image, and made by Voice Powered Technology International. I still have the charging dock and the manual.

eBay is apparently the best place to find these organizers. Voice Powered Technology went out of business several years ago, and no one seems to sell anything like them in the U.S. I did find some similar products on-line that are available in Japan, but they can not be exported to the U.S. (I can’t even begin to understand why not…)
Does anyone out there have a friend who is a “big-wig” at Motorola or some other cell phone manufacturer, who could recommend that the voice organizer features that we all seem to want be added to new cell phones? For God sake! The fact that these things are selling on eBay at the same price that they were marketed over 15 years ago SCREAMS for the value that they represent. Can you think of any other electronic device that maintains its full value after 15 years? Obviously, the technology is not new. Why have U.S. manufacturers “missed the boat” when it comes to the incredible features of this great little voice organizer?

I have a Sharper Image 5500 to sell. This is an older model that requires 5 V60R Ni-Cd button cell batteries. The original batteries are dead. Varta, the company that produced the V60R batteries no longer makes that battery. They claim that the V80H Ni-MH should work but I haven’t had any luck. The V80H are currently installed.
If you can get the device to work, it’s great. It includes a battery charger. Of course you need to make sure you can find batteries that will work.
