What kind of college is right for you?

There are many kinds of college environments in the US and abroad. When students with learning disabilities look at going to college they have to factor in how their learning issues will affect their ability to do the coursework required at each college and of course, what kinds of support the college has in place to help them, if they need it.
Some students want to go to a big, state university with LD support where they can be with a variety of kids, have a variety of options for classes and majors, and have a heterogenius university experience.
Some students want a smaller school with more individual attention because all of this stuff overwhelms them and they can’t get their work done without daily support.
Many parents and consultants and students think that smaller schools are always better for students with a learning disabilities but this is not always true and of course, there is more to going to college than doing well academically; there is also making new friends and learning how to live away from home, not to mention enjoying the things the surrounding community offers.
If you are a student, what kind of college experience are you looking for? If you are a parent, teacher, or consultant, how do you help guide a student with a learning disability toward making a good choice?
