The Atlanta Speech School is comprised of four education programs, the Katherine Hamm Center (formerly known as the Oral School), Stepping Stones (a pre school) another preschool called the Anne and Jim Kenan Preschool and the Wardlaw School. In addition there are four clinical programs for speech language pathology, psychoeducational evaluations, and occupational therapy. Finally this organization also has a professional development institute called the Rollins Center.
The Stepping Stones preschool program is for three and four year olds who demonstrate low average-to-average IQ who have speech or language processing difficulties. They might have a child with decent language reception but struggle with Apraxia. There are also kids who display some sensory motor issues. It’s pretty heavily laden with professional therapists alongside teachers. There is speech/language therapy every day plus two days per week of occupational therapy and specific language development. It works out to about three professionals for every ten kids. The Hamm Center is a school for infants and toddlers as well as some early elementary aged children who are hard of hearing or deaf. One of the interesting features of this program is that they have a living room and kitchen of sorts where parents can come in and practice communication skills with their children guided by the faculty.
