Bachman Academy is a wonderful school for K-12 boarding and day students who learn differently. The 210-acre campus is the ideal backdrop for an environmentally-focused school for average to above average students who struggle to learn in a traditional educational environment. Bachman specializes in the education of students with AD/HD, Dyslexia, and other similar learning differences. Bachman’s curriculum includes opportunities to learn and practice executive functioning skills, the skills necessary to function successfully in today’s society. The Academy boasts a 4:1 student to faculty ratio and a 1:1 student to staff ratio (which includes dormitory staff). Educators at the Academy are trained in well-researched methods of instruction for students with learning differences. In addition, many of the faculty and staff have first-hand knowlege of the struggles and stress an inappropriate education can have on children and their families, when the expectations of a traditional classroom are not met. Bachman teachers adjust their style and methods to teach the way the students learn best. It is all about the students!
The vocational programs offered at Bachman are unique among the majority of boarding speciality schools. The programs are built on outcome-based learning, with the ending goal of entry into a technical school or employment upon graduation. The required “School to Work” course covers such topics as personal finance, completing job applications, preparing for a job interview, interview skills, personal appearance, self-advocacy, and preparing for independent living.
