Kindle 2: Amazon’s New Wireless Reading Device
Watch the guided tour video and note that Kindle 2 has text to speech built in so any book or piece of content on the screen can be read aloud, either through the built in speakers or through headphones plugged into it.
This e-reader may be the most accessible way to read around and anyone looking to add things to a computer to allow this kind of access might want to consider a Kindle.
I never heard of this before. This sounds like a wonderful programme for those with low vision that cannot afford huge programmes. I will have to look into this more.
pwd: It’s not a program, it’s a device for reading books.
There’s already a legal uproar over the Kindle2’s text to speech feature: Legal ruckus over Kindle 2’s text-to-speech feature.
It would be a real shame if people who can’t read got shut out because authors are afraid that this feature will compete with audio books that sell and make them more money. I understand the issue but it seems like this speech is so crude by comparison that few would forgo buying an audio book because of this feature.
